I wanted to write this for anyone who hasn't yet found their style, or place as a photographer. It takes time to find yourself as a photographer. Some find it early on, and some take a long time. I truly believe that even those who 'found their style' are always adding to it, perfecting it, and in a way altering what their vision looks like.

I do however know how frustrating it can feel to shoot session after session and not yet know what your style is, or worse, to have a vision in your head of what you want your work to look like, and not being able to create it.

Now I want you to realize this; you could be one session away from finding your style and creating work you completely fall in love with. As a photographer, it's an incredible feeling to have a vision in your mind, and then go out and create it. It's not always easy, and just because I know who I am as a photographer, and have a particular style, doesn't mean that I don't have sessions that sometimes don't fall into what I absolutely love, but I never let that stop me from getting out there and creating.

I want you to think long and hard about the work you want to create, that vision in your head. I want you to grab a piece of paper and pen and write down as much as you can about what a dream session looks like to you.

What type of session is it? What type of people do you need for the shoot? What kind of location? What clothing do your models have on?

I want you to write down ever single detail of the vision you have in your head because that is the first step to making it a reality.

Next, I want you to put out a casting call and get all the materials you need to make this session happen. Remember, this shoot is for you to make your vision a reality. The only way to do that is to get out there and create it. There's a huge different between shooting just for clients, and shooting for yourself. To create work you love yourself, you have to shoot for yourself first, find your style and then showcase that work to potential clients. I promise you they will come when they see your heart is in it.

In the end, remember this. You could be one session away from creating something amazing, but you're never going to get there if you don't show up and make it happen for yourself.
