Shoutout To The Women Who Raise Businesses And Babies
As a mother and business owner, I am guilty of not always feeling like the most professional business woman out there. I’ve spent years balancing a business while raising two children and all too often in these past years have I felt that being a mom has made it harder to feel like one of those polished business women that are at the top of their game all the time. I kind of always thought that was the goal. To feel and look professional all the time because that’s what success looked like. And let’s be real, it’s hard looking “professional” with a baby on your hip, and comparing yourself to what you see is the standard of professionalism. Sadly the world of motherhood, and entrepreneurship often aren’t often shown together. For some reason, mothers are made to believe that being a mother removes the possibility of looking like a successful business owner. And that’s just not true. I’m not saying that this is some rule, but it’s just a fact that so many men and women are made to choose between staying at home and raising babies or going back to work. So for those that decided that they want both, it’s easy to compare our self to what we see around us.
Instead of feeling less than because I am a mother who has to juggle between motherhood and entrepreneurship, I should be incredibly proud of being able to do both at the same time. I shouldn’t hide the fact that things aren’t always as polished, perfect, and professional as my vision of success once was in the past. I have a new vision, a vision where success looks a little different. One where I find a way to merge motherhood with owning a business and managing both as gracefully as possible.
Mothers should be proud of the fact that they are raising babies and building a business, working endless nights on making their dreams a reality with a baby sleeping on their chest.
Out of all the things I have done in my life, being a mother will always be my greatest accomplishment. Doing what I love and running a business is what I’m passionate about and I’m here to re-write the rules on what looks professional in today’s society of motherhood and entrepreneurship because last I checked, mothers who work from home are killing it.
To all my moms out there who have decided to start their own business;
OWN IT.
ALL OF IT.
