How To Edit 120+ Photos In Under 30 Minutes
It used to take me weeks to complete clients galleries, and I had the hardest time keeping my galleries consistent. The lighting was different for every shot, and I had no idea how to create a gallery that matched the vision I had for it. After years of editing, I've learned how to maximize my time editing and can easily edit 100+ photos in a very short time while keeping my artistic vision lined up with each of my galleries. I'd love to give you some pointers on how you can do the same. Remember, post processing doesn't have to take forever, and when you're working on editing, consistency is key.
Here are my 4 tips on how to go about editing a lot of photos in a limited amount of time.
1. START WITH A VISION FOR THE ENTIRE GALLERY
It is important for me to have a vision for the session. Often while I shoot the session, I immediately see how to lighting is, how the colors are photographing and see how I want my result to look like. When I get started in Lightroom I can start that vision with one photo, get the lighting exactly how I want it, bring out the colors that I love and make the correct adjustments needed to get the portrait to what I want it to look like. I use this one image as my gallery vision. I want to make sure that all the future edits will match the lighting, colors, and overall feeling.
2. EDITING CONSISTENTLY STARTS WITH SHOOTING CONSISTENTLY
Editing a consistent gallery is a lot easier when you shoot consistently. Of course, I change my settings while shooting. I often move to different spots with different lighting, so I have to make the right adjustments to get it how I want it. What I don't do is jump from camera settings to camera setting, tweaking my shutter speed and aperture every second shot I take. I keep it the same while shooting unless I feel the actual need to change it. What this means is when I edit I can easily keep my adjustments in line as well. Editing consistently starts with shooting consistently.
3. BATCH EDITING IS YOUR BEST FRIEND
It's probably one reason I absolutely love Lightroom. Batch editing makes this process super quick and easily. When I create adjustments on ONE image, I can easily select multiple photos and transfer those changes to the other photos without constantly having to repeat it for every single picture. It's a HUGE time saver, and if you're not currently using this fantastic tool then I highly recommend trying it out, it will change the way you edit forever!
4. KNOW WHEN TO BATCH EDIT AND WHEN TO DO DETAILED EDITING
I recently posted a sneak peak of editing one portrait from a recent session. It shows a very detailed edit that took 30 minutes to create. As much as I love batch editing, I also love creating unique portraits for my clients. This mean I take 30 min to edit one shot (or a few of my favorites, that still match my overall vision) while also creating a consistent gallery that doesn't take me forever. The key to this is knowing when to batch edit and when to do detailed editing.
I love batch editing and then will select my certain portraits to give that extra editing time. I don't love one more than the other; it's just that certain portraits need a little more, and that's perfectly ok!

I just started experimenting with Lightroom yesterday, and I am loving batch editing! I created a few presets that I can use again and again. I’m super encouraged to see your before and after pictures, because so often I shoot in less-than-ideal lighting and end up with dark pictures, when what I really want is that light and airy look. Thanks for sharing!

love this , my look/style is similar to yours and would love to see how you transform this in lightroom. Sometimes I do struggle bringing it back to my style from a dark location like your SOOC.
